Q: Do I need some kind of special licence to drive a houseboat?
A: No, your current drivers licence is sufficient. |
Q: If I haven't had any boating experience, can I still drive a houseboat?
A: Yes, provided you are over 18 years of age. When you arrive, you will be instructed on the operation and navigation of the houseboat. To ensure you are comfortable and competent in the handling of the houseboat, you will be taken on a short navigational cruise. |
Q: Where do I leave my vehicle whilst I am away on my holiday?
A: Both Lock 5 and Tower Marina’s have a locked compound in which your car and or caravan can be safely left whilst you relax and enjoy your trip. |
Q: How many people can I bring on a houseboat?
A: Whilst we would love you to bring as many friends as you can, Maritime Regulations state the number of persons on board must not exceed the number of berths, the maximum on Lady Muk is 9. Children under 12 months old are not included in this count. |
Q: Can I bring my children on a houseboat holiday?
A: Yes. Lady Muk makes an excellent family holiday. Our houseboat has excellent child safety areas that make for an exciting and adventurous holiday for the kids, whilst taking the stress away from the adults. Provided the regulations are adhered to and you use common sense, your whole family can enjoy the river. |
Q: How much bond do I have to pay and when do I get it back?
A: A Cash bond of $500 is payable to the manager prior to embarking. Bonds are refunded by mail within 7 days. |
Q: What is on the houseboat?
A: Almost everything is provided for your houseboat holiday. Lady Muk comes with bed linen supplied, however you will need to bring your own bath towels. Our boat has a fully equipped kitchen and a washing machine. Block and bagged ice can be supplied for the Icebox on the front deck. Enquire with us at the time of booking for further information as to what you will need. |
Q: How far can I travel?
A: The average speed of a houseboat is approx. 7km per hour. Most people would only travel 4 or 5 hours per day. There are maps on all boats to assist with the navigation of your holiday, and stopping anywhere along the banks of the River Murray will take your breath away. |
Q: Can I travel at night on the river?
A: No, houseboats can not be driven after sunset. |
Q: What happens if I damage the boat?
A: The houseboat is insured. Providing the terms and conditions of hire are adhered to, the limit of liability is usually the insurance excess which is $250. Wilful or negligent damage is not covered. |
Q: How much fuel will I use and what will it cost?
A: Fuel charges are payable on completion of the hire. Fuel usage depends on distance and speed travelled. As a guide, you can expect to use approximately 10 - 12 litres per hour when running at economical throttle settings. |
Q: What happens if I need help?
A: All Houseboats are fitted with two-way radios in case you need assistance. Mobile phone coverage in the riverland is quite good and improving all the time. CDMA has even better coverage. |
